In France, French toast is named suffering perdu—”lost bread,” a nod to the reality that the dish will work most effective with stale bread. Extra importantly, discomfort perdu is not served at breakfast, but relatively as a dessert, a reminder that this dish is ordinarily soaked in sugar and product. This edition forgoes cream for milk, and a deluge of sugar for vanilla and a slug of bourbon. It’s however a very decadent French toast recipe to start out your day, but at least you will not require a nap afterward. (But you can just take one in any case if you want to, we won’t inform!)
You are going to Need
1 1⁄2 cups 2% milk
1⁄4 cup bourbon
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 Tbsp sugar
1⁄4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 loaf day-outdated place bread, preferably entire wheat, reduce into 8 slices
Butter for the pan
Maple or agave syrup for serving
How to Make It
- Preheat the oven to 225°F.
