If you’re riding solo this holiday season, chances are you won’t need to prepare a whole feast. This unprecedented year presents you with a rare opportunity: trying out a completely new recipe. And why not test one out that’s fit for a queen?
The Royal Family just shared their recipe for a traditional Christmas pudding—straight from their kitchens in the U.K.
“Today is #StirupSunday: traditionally the day when home cooks ‘stir up’ their Christmas pudding mixture,” the family tweeted over the weekend. “This year, chefs in the Royal kitchens have shared their recipe for a traditional Christmas pudding. Instead of whipping up a giant pastry this year, consider downsizing to avoid food waste—and a massive stomach ache. In the same thread, the Royal Family included the ingredients you need to make the regal dish at home. Oh, and did we mention it’s boozy? You’ll need beer, brandy, and dark rum on-hand, so make sure to stock up your bar cart beforehand. (Below is your complete grocery list.)
These ingredients make 2 x 1kg puddings:
🍇 250g raisins
🍇 250g currants
🍇 185g sultanas
🍊 150g mixed peel
🧈 250g suet or vegetarian suet
🍞 250g breadcrumbs
🌾 90g flour
🎄12g mixed spice
🥚 2 whole eggs
🍬180g demerara sugar
🍺 275ml beer
🍹 40ml dark rum
🥃 40ml brandy

The process for making this pastry seems fairly simple—at least that’s the impression we got from watching the Royal’s how-to clip. Here’s what you need to do: First, combine the dry ingredients with the liquids and eggs in a mixing bowl. Next, transfer the contents into small, greased bowls (the tops of which should be covered with parchment paper). Finally, steam the bowls in a deep sauce pan. Cover the top of the pan with foil, and let everything cook for six hours.
